Ghost towns subject of museum lecture

Nevada author Stan Paher speaks on ghost towns at the Douglas County Historical Society's lecture of the month, 7 p.m. Thursday, at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center, 1477 Highway 395, Gardnerville.

Paher wrote his first book, "Nevada's Ghost Towns and Mining Camps," in 1966. He is the author of books about Lake Tahoe, Death Valley, and ghost towns and mining camps in Nevada, California, and Arizona. His newest book is "Nevada Ghost Towns & Mining Camps Illustrated Atlas."

Paher's lecture includes information about the ghost towns of mining camps in the Bodie-Aurora area, Hamilton and Ward, Candelaria, and sites along the Carson River.

He shows photos of the mining camps in their heydays, as they are today, and of discovered relics. Paher also gives tips about camping and hiking in ghost towns.
