Saturday, Oct. 23, a Ride for the Wounded Warriors will leave Mountainview Barbecue at 10 a.m. All motorcycles, cars, trucks, as well as any other street legal vehicles are welcome to participate. The entry fee is $25, which will get you a great ride through the eastern Sierra, a delicious Texas-style dinner and entertainment for the whole family. Dinner will be at the Barbecue, and all proceeds will be donated to the Wounded Warrior Project, in memory and honor of Michele Hinds. For more information, call Jeff Hinds at (530) 495-2107.
For those of you who, like me, had never heard of congenital diaphragmatic hernia, it is a terrible condition that forms before a baby's birth. It makes their organs migrate to their chest, and the babies are very lucky if they survive the intense surgical procedures needed to correct the condition. Local resident Shannon Minder became an advocate to fight this condition when one of her twin nephews died only 35 days after birth.
There will be a fundraiser held at Virginia Creek Settlement Oct. 28 to raise funds for this cause. They will be offering a spaghetti, pizza and salad bar buffet, with the cost for those over 12 years of age being $20, and $8 for children from 4-11 years old. The first seating for dinner begins at 5 p.m.
The Antelope Valley Women's Club will hold their annual bazaar, Sunday, Nov. 7, noon to 5 p.m. in the Walker Community Building, with a roast beef dinner beginning at 4:30 p.m. The bazaar will be held indoors, and they are seeking even more vendors to help make it a really good time. For vendor reservations and more information, call (530) 495-2918. The funds raise will go toward their scholarships given to local students.
The Antelope Valley Artists group will have their Walker Art Show during the same hours as the Women's Club's bazaar, Nov. 7, at the Walker Senior Center across the street. They are looking for local artists to participate in the show, so contact Nancy Sims at (530) 495-2488 to sign up.
Post office information
Coleville Postmaster Josh Armstrong sent me information about the deadline for shipping packages, cards and letters to overseas military personnel. The cutoff date for the most economical postage to ship overseas, including Iraq and Afghanistan is Nov. 12. The final date for shipping is Dec. 10. For more specific information, you can call Josh at (530) 495-2133.
Football fun
The Coleville football team is leading their league, with a 6-0 record. In their last two games, they have won by scores of 56-18 and 62-12. It is sure a lot of fun to watch them win like that. Their next home game will be Oct. 23, 1 p.m. Try to get out and enjoy their play.
