Tennis: Douglas players advance at regionals

The Northern 4A Regional tennis championships got underway in Carson on Tuesday and Wednesday. Douglas has four players advance to the second round.


Amelia Ritger cruised in her first-round match, beating her opponent from Truckee 6-0, 6-1. Kari TenBroeck advanced with a 6-0, 6-0 win. Sarah Weaver fell in the first round after winning her play-in match.


On the boys' side, James TenBroeck won his first round match 6-0, 6-0 while Cody Tindel advanced with a 6-2, 6-2 win.


Freshman Pat Johnson fell in the play-in round 6-2, 6-1.


"Pat is a very talented tennis player and he'll get many more chances to compete in the future tournaments," Douglas coach Rod Smith said. "I'm very proud of Pat's accomplishments this year.


"He has worked hard in practice, competed hard in every match and, most importantly, is an excellent student."


The singles tournament resumes Friday morning while doubles play commenced Thursday afternoon. The remainder of the tournament will be played at the Caughlin Club in Reno.
