The Douglas High volleyball team cruised to a three-game sweep over Carson Thursday night, winning 25-8, 25-17, 25-16.

The match was evenly played early on with Douglas holding on to a slight 7-6 lead when Tigers' libero Mia Townsell sent an arcing ball over the net that landed just inside the baseline for a point.

The play launched Douglas on an 8-0 run that the Tigers were able to extend into an 18-2 run to close out the game.

The Senators only led twice -- briefly in each game -- from thereon, although they were able to stick closer with the Tigers in the final two games.

Carson trailed only 18-16 in Game 2 when the Tigers set loose on a 7-1 run to take the game. Douglas led 23-11 in Game 3 when Carson scraped a 4-1 run together to cut the deficit before the Tigers again put the game away.

Shannon Dugan, Emily Garcia and Brenna White each had six kills, Keely Latham had four and Savannah Wood had three.

Townsell had 14 digs, Garcia had six blocks and Jackie Harper had 26 assists. Dugan and White each had two aces for the Tigers.

Elysse Virden and Jeanette VanSickle shared the team lead for Carson in kills with seven each. Bailey Valente had 14 assists.

Douglas improved to 27-2 overall and 12-0 in league play with the win.
