EDITOR:
For the past year it has been my pleasure to participate in the Leadership Douglas County program offered through the Carson Valley Chamber of Commerce. What an awesome program to have in our local community.
Being a (relative) newcomer to the area, the program provided me the opportunity to learn some of the history of the valley, meet leaders in local and state government, private business, nonprofit, tourism and agricultural industries (just to mention a few). The exposure to all these areas has given me a great overall picture of what is going on in the community.
Even with the economic downturn, I am amazed at what our local volunteer organizations accomplish. We are truly blessed to live in such a giving and caring community.
The LDC program has graduated more than 200 people since 1996 and everywhere you go in the community you will see these people in various leadership positions.
Through the program, I have learned many leadership skills that I will utilize in my everyday business life and volunteer activities.
This is a program that I truly hope the chamber will be able to continue offering for many years to come.
