Flood warning issued for Sierra, east slope

Rain is falling at .16 inches an hour in Minden and .12 inches an hour in Genoa Canyon as the National Weather Service issued an urban and small stream flooding advisory for the Sierra from Minden to Doyle, Calif.

Weather service radar shows moderate to heavy rainfall in the Sierra with precipitation spilling into the foothills west of Highway 395.

Forecasters say rainfall amounts of more than an inch will occur through the evening with local amounts of up to 2 inches possible.

Small creeks and streams are rising in the eastern Tahoe Basin and the foothills west of Highway 395.

Motorists are advised to watch for rock slides on roads near steep terrain.

Among the creeks listed by the Weather Service are Clear Creek, Glenbrook Creek, and Daggett Creek.

Sonora and Ebbetts Pass have been closed due to snow. Carson Pass and Echo Summit through the Sierra are open.

A high wind warning on through Washoe Valley is diverting trucks and other high-profile vehicles off Highway 395.

A tractor-trailer was blown over in Washoe Valley at 7:54 a.m.

A wind gust of 62 mph was recorded by a trained spotter living in the foothills near Gardnerville at 7:27 a.m. Sunday.

Other than the passes closed in the southern Sierra there are few road controls and the roads are clear.

The California Highway Patrol is working a vehicle vs. tree accident on Highway 50 near Mount Ralston Road. No one was injured in the accident reported at 2:27 p.m., but the tree blocked both lanes of the highway for a time.
