A 21-year-old Gardnerville man accused of having sex with a 13-year-old girl was charged Monday with three counts of sexual assault against a child under age 14.
Judge Pro Tem Paul Gilbert appointed attorney Tod Young to represent Juan Daniel Martir, who is being held in Douglas County Jail on $202,500 bail.
Gilbert set Martir's next court appearance for Wednesday.
Martir was arrested Oct. 20 and accused of exposing himself to the girl at her Ruhenstroth home.
The incident was discovered by an adult caretaker with whom the girl lives. The caretaker found Martir, identified as a family friend, exposing himself to the girl in the residence.
Sgt. Jim Halsey said further investigation turned up evidence that Martir had engaged in sexual activity with the girl. Martir reportedly admitted to investigators that he had sex with her and knew she was 13.
The victim said Martir forced himself on her.
