The Performing Arts Project of Northern Nevada is hosting a grand expansion ribbon cutting ceremony 5 p.m. Thursday at 2556 Precision Drive, Suite E, in Minden.
The event is open to all children and families in the community, and refreshments and activities will be provided. Doors open at 4 p.m., and children and adults are welcome to join the hip-hop class being taught.
The celebration will highlight the award-winning studio's third year in business, offering students of all ages professional instruction in ballet, pointe, tap, hip-hop, jazz, lyrical, pre-dance, worship dance, tumbling and conditioning. Community performances, recitals, and a competition team are available.

At its new location at 1307 Langley Drive, Suite B, in the Gardnerville Ranchos, Sandy's Family Salon has added a new nail technician as well.
Natalie Kendrick has lived in Gardnerville for 16 years. She and husband Thomas have four young daughters.
Three years ago, Kendrick obtained her manicuring license and entered the field.
"I'm offering all nail services in a cozy atmosphere at a new, convenient location for Sandy's Family Salon behind 7-Eleven in the Ranchos," she said.

Gardnerville resident and stylist Sharon Rempt has joined ranks at Fifth Street Salon in Minden.
The beauty shop offers haircuts and styling for all ages, color, perms, nails, waxing and ear piercing.
Rempt has been in the business for 22 years, 17 years in Carson Valley, and the last five years at Hair Cottage.
"I listen to people and give them what they want, but give them what will work best with their lifestyle and what will work with their hair," she said.
Fifth Street Salon is located at 1604 Esmeralda Ave., Minden. Rempt is available 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday and evenings by appointment.

Pari-mutuel horse racing betting has been added to the many other sports betting opportunities at the Carson Valley Inn sports book located adjacent to the casino's cabaret lounge and large island bar.
