EDITOR:
I grew up in the Carson Valley and spent a lot of time with my family, and other families, at the Minden-Tahoe Airport. Back then it was called the Douglas County Airport. My father is a soaring pilot and still flies in our spectacular natural environment.
I am sorry to say soaring has declined at Minden. There are many reasons. What is important to me is that our community take action to rebuild and invigorate soaring here. I hope in the future more people can share the simple pleasures my family enjoyed using our airport and living in our wondrous valley.
I encourage you to vote "yes" on the proposed airport ordinance, Douglas County Question No. 1. This ordinance supports the growth of soaring while limiting the expansion and commercialization of our airport. And the ordinance gives the control to the residents of Douglas County, over any plans to change the rural character of our airport.
Please help soaring be even better than it was. Vote "yes" on Question No. 1.
