Douglas County merchants had $47.71 million in taxable sales during the month of August, according to information released by the Nevada Department of Taxation on Tuesday. Sales were essentially flat with an increase of $4,106 over the $47.7 million from August 2009. The five categories that make up half the sales all came in lower, but there were some bright spots.
Tuesday posted the third highest early voting day after Oct. 16 and Oct. 19, with 906 residents casting ballots. So far 31 percent of the active voting electorate has cast an early or absentee ballot. Broken down by party, Republicans hit 36 percent, Democrats 28 percent and independent and minor party members hit 21 percent turnout.
