The Kids & Horses Therapeutic Riding Center of Minden celebrates 12 years in the community with their Western barbecue and Sierra Star Search, 5 p.m. Sept. 11 at the Crystal Bay Club, North Lake Tahoe.
The goal is to surpass the more than $45,000 raised last year to help fund scholarships for students in need and assist with expanding programs to serve the dozens of children on the Kids & Horses waiting list.
"This exciting night is fun for the community," said Alexis Roman Hill, Kids & Horses executive director. "Our event is different and a community favorite because you can dress casually with a western flair, win incredible auction and raffle items and watch talented students perform. With this community's support and involvement Kids & Horses has been able to teach horsemanship to over 200 students."
Erika Martin, morning weather reporter for KRNV News 4, is the emcee for the Sierra Star Search talent show, featuring youth finalists who competed at auditions at area high schools and are eligible for cash prizes at the event.
Raffle items at the Kid & Horses fundraiser include miniature golf, National Automobile Museum tickets, parasailing tickets, and a ride on the Tahoe Queen. The silent auction features golf packages, travel packages, and gift baskets.
The live auction features items entertainment packages, a backyard barbecue provided by the Brimm's family of Shakespeare's Kitchen catering fame, a stay at the Ritz Carlton San Francisco with 49er tickets, parking and a dinner in San Francisco, a stay at the Hyatt Regency Lake Tahoe, dinner for four at the Lone Eagle Grille and sunset cruise on the Sierra Cloud, and the annual auction favorite, the wheelbarrow of booze.
Tickets for the Kids & Horses fundraiser are $30 and include the full barbecue dinner and evening of Sierra Star Search entertainment. Purchase tickets for the fundraiser at kidsandhorses.org or at the door.
