Former Douglas High standout Chris Balcom-Miller, who has been pitching for Colorado Rockies Single-A affiliate Ashville this season, was traded to the Boston Red Sox Wednesday afternoon for major league middle reliever Manny Delcarmen and cash considerations.

Balcom-Miller, who pitched and started at third base for Douglas as a sophomore in 2005, had compiled a 6-7 record for Asheville while carrying a 3.31 ERA with 117 strikeouts and just 19 walks in 109 innings.

Delcarmen has a 3-2 record with a 4.70 ERA and 32 strikeouts in 48 appearances for Boston this season.

Balcom-Miller reported to Boston's Single-A affiliate, the Greenville Drive, on Thursday and is slated to start tonight against the Hickory Crawdads.

After finishing his high school career at Leigh High in California, Balcom-Miller pitched two seasons for West Valley College. He was drafted in the sixth round by Colorado last summer and was named the Pioneer League Pitcher of the Year after posting a 4-0 record with 60 strikeouts and 10 walks in 57 innings pitched for Casper, Wyo.
