County commissioners approved a whole stack of water rate increases on Thursday afternoon, though they balked a little at the Fairgrounds. They told residents they'd try to find ways to keep their bills from getting completely out of control. I spoke to a couple who didn't know they were in the Fairgrounds system. They're afraid their neighborhood will turn into a ghost town.

The big deal this weekend will be the Elks Summerfest Carnival and the Topaz Volunteer Fire Department's barbecue on Sunday. If you're willing to go a little bit further south, Bridgeport is celebrating Founder's Day on Saturday.

We're going to kick off the Labor Day weekend with a fire weather watch as a big trough of low pressure arrives on Saturday night. Expect high winds and low humidity starting Saturday afternoon, making for dangerous fire conditions.
