Walk your dog or just yourself at the Douglas Animal Welfare Group's Mutt Poker Walk fundraiser Oct. 2.
Registration is 8 a.m.-11 a.m. at the Carson Valley Museum & Cultural Center in Gardnerville, where maps, donuts, beverages, dog cookies, and walker goodie bags will be provided.
First walk starts at 9 a.m. and last walk ends at 11 a.m. The poker walk begins at the museum and proceeds to Mutt Poker Card Stations at participating downtown Gardnerville businesses.
The event includes entertainment by Sierra Storm starting at 10 a.m., a barbecue lunch available for purchase by the Lions Club from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m., vendor booths, a 50-50 drawing, microchip clinic, and fun dog contests.
The entry fee to be eligible for prize drawings with best poker hand and a goodie bag is $25 for walkers with or without a dog. Preregistration is requested by Sept. 27. First 100 to register receive a free T-shirt.
Walkers are encouraged to sign up sponsors, with prizes awarded for the most money collected.
Anyone without a dog may walk for enjoyment, but must check in upon arrival on Oct. 2.
The Mutt Poker Walk is a fundraiser to benefit the dogs and cats at the Douglas County Animal Shelter. Funds collected by DAWG members help pay for medical care, promotion of pets and spaying/neutering programs and other needs to aid adoption of the animals.
