Bike race photo wins monthly contest

A close-up photo of the legs of a bicyclist won first place for Dave Stewart in the monthly Carson Valley Photo Club competition. The winning photo, "Bike Racer," was shot during the Big Kahuna Triathlon in Santa Cruz, Calif. The race featured swimming, running and a 56-mile bike course.

A club field trip to the Nevada State Railroad Museum in Carson City rendered the second- and third-place winners.

Joe Polovina won second place with "Put Your Back Into It," a shot of three railroad workers in front of old Locomotive No. 25.

"Train Coming Home" by Nancy Hulsey won third place. It shows a locomotive rounding a curve on the museum tracks.

The theme for this month's contest was "transportation." Theme for the next contest, with winners to be chosen at the club's Oct. 12 meeting, is "Last Summer." Club members will be sorting through files and taking new photos representing summertime since Memorial Day.

Reno Gazette-Journal photographer Marilyn Newton will address the club at the October meeting. She has worked for the Reno newspaper for nearly 50 years.

Club member Bonnie Mahl discussed ranch photography at the organization's September meeting.

The club welcomes new members - amateurs to professionals. It meets the second Tuesday each month at the Carson Valley United Methodist Church, 1375 Centerville Lane, Gardnerville. Information, club president Doug Dill, 783-4388.
