Volleyball: Tigers sweep Truckee

The Douglas volleyball team overwhelmed Northern 3A power Truckee on Wednesday, beating the Wolverines 25-18, 25-7, 25-15.


The Tigers improved to 12-1 on the year with the win.


Douglas' outside tandem of Brenna White and Shannon Dugan put up gaudy numbers (13 and 12 kills respectively) heading into Thursday night's rivalry showdown at Carson while Jackie Harper doled out 39 assists and Mia Townsell led a strong defensive effort with 24 digs.


On the attack, Keely Latham added five kills, Emily Garcia and Savannah Wood each had three, Townsell had two and Harper and Carly McCullough each had one.


Garcia led the front line with two blocks while Latham, White and Wood each had one.


Dugan and White chipped in six digs apiece, Nikki Chavez had four, Harper had three, McCullough had two and Erin Allison had one.


Townsell (12 service points, one ace), Chavez (seven points, two aces) and White (seven points, three aces) led a solid service game while Harper had seven points, Dugan had six and Allison and Garcia each had two.
