Douglas County Parks & Recreation offers activities and classes for children to seniors. Registration is required for all classes. Information at 1327 Waterloo Lane, Gardnerville, or 782-9828.


Tap class. Students age 9-13 learn tap dance basics, 5:30-6:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 12 - Nov. 2, at the Dance Workshop. Cost, $45.


Ceramic jack-o'-lantern. Students age 7-12 create a ceramic pumpkin, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Sept. 30, and 4-4:30 p.m. Oct. 7. Cost is $25.


Everlasting fish aquarium. Students ages 7-12 create aquariums with ceramic plates and nontoxic paints, 3:30-5:30 p.m. Oct. 5, and 4-4:30 p.m. Oct. 12. Cost, $25.


Introduction to violin. Third- to sixth-grade students get acquainted with the violin. Class is 3:30-4:15 p.m. Wednesdays Oct. 27-Nov. 17 at Pinon Hills Elementary School. Cost of $25 includes materials and use of a violin.

Happy Notes Music. Children age 2-5 years learn songs and dances, play with puppets and musical Instruments, 9:15-10 a.m. Tuesdays Oct. 5-26, or 4-4:45 p.m. Thursdays, Oct. 7-28. Parent participation required. Cost is $45.


Renaissance swordsmanship. Students 13 and older learn the basic techniques of swordsmanship, 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 4-27, Mondays at Jacks Valley Elementary School, and Wednesdays at Carson Valley Middle School. Cost, $30, with a $10 discount for registering for both classes.


Ballroom dance. Learn fundamentals of fox trot, swing, waltz and Latin dances. Class is 6:30-7:30 p.m. Fridays, Oct. 8-29 for adults, and 6:30-7:30 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 12 - Nov. 2 for ages 9-13, at Dance Workshop in Minden. Cost, $80 per couple.


Concealed weapon certification. Course meets and exceeds Nevada State concealed weapon certification requirements for handguns. Class is 6-9:30 p.m. Oct. 13 and Oct. 15 at the recreation annex, and 8-11 a.m. Oct. 16 at the Douglas County Shooting Range. Cost is $90 plus a $10 insurance fee.


Scrap booking. Croptoberfest album making with instructor Jackie Gordon, 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. Oct. 16, at Gardnerville Elementary School. Tools available. Cost of $20 includes snack and water.


How to start a worm bin. Learn to grow vegetables and flowering plants in a chemical-free environment, 10-11:30 a.m. or 7-8:30 p.m. Oct. 20, at the Recreation Annex Building. Cost is $30.


CPR Certification. Learn CPR and first aid 9 a.m. to noon Oct. 2 and Oct. 23 at Great Basin Home Heath. Cost, $65.


Beginning tai chi. Warm-ups, exercises and repetitions, Saturdays at Gardnerville Elementary School. Cost, $5 per month.


Yoga focuses on the body, mind and spirit with concentration on control, stretching and breathing. Class is 9:30-11 a.m. Mondays and Thursdays, Oct. 4-29, at the recreation annex building. Bring an exercise mat. Cost, $40.


Natural health approaches. Receive a complete personal health evaluation and learn natural ways to support and heal your body with foods, herbs, supplements and remedies. Class is 1-2 p.m. Tuesdays, Oct. 5-26, at the recreation annex building. Cost, $40.
