Volleyball: Douglas tops Manogue to move into 1st place

The Douglas volleyball team moved into sole possession of first place in the Sierra League Thursday night, hanging on for a close win in five games at Manogue.


Douglas won 25-20, 22-25, 23-25, 25-16, 15-10 to improve to 15-1 overall and 6-0 in league play.


Shannon Dugan registered 24 kills, five aces, 12 digs and two blocks to lead the Tigers while Jackie Harper had a whopping 52 assists to go with 10 digs and an assist.


Emily Garcia came up big in the middle with 10 kills and four blocks and Brenna White finished with eight kills, 17 digs, three assists and a block.


Mia Townsell led the defense with 25 digs, Nikki Chavez had seven, Heidi Schefcik had four, Garcia had three and Erin Allison, Carly McCullough and Savannah Wood had one.


Wood had three kills, Harper had two, Keely Latham had two, McCullough had one and Townsell had one.


Erin Allison had three blocks and an ace, and McCullough added a block as well.
