Former tattoo artist's prison sentence extended

A former Gardnerville tattoo artist was sentenced to 2-5 years in Nevada State Prison after admitting to robbery charges.

Timothy Young, 28, apologized to the victim in the case, who was stripped and left in the Pine Nuts with only his shoes and underwear, and a pack of cigarettes Young left him.

"What I did was wrong," he said. "I'm trying to better myself. I apologized to the victim."

Young pleaded guilty to one count of robbery on Aug. 9, saying he was avoiding the more serious charges of kidnapping in the first degree and robbery with a deadly weapon. Young is in Nevada State Prison serving up to five years on an unrelated, but similar incident.

Young and Robert Pierce, 33, of Minden were both sentenced after admitting to taking a man out to the Pine Nut Mountains and threatening him in an effort to collect a debt owed to Young.

In that case, Young was sentenced to five years in prison for robbery. Pierce received a year in Douglas County jail for his part in the incident.

After Pierce's sentencing he was served with an arrest warrant in an earlier case that subsequently came to light.

Judge Michael Gibbons said he was surprised when he read about Pierce and Young being charged in another incident.

"There would have been a different outcome if I'd known about the other case," he said.

Gibbons ordered that the sentence be served concurrently with the one Young is serving now.

Pierce is denying the charges and is scheduled to go to trial on Nov. 2.

Prosecutor Laurie Trotter told Gibbons she has subpoenaed witnesses and is prepared to go to trial in that case.
