Concert season opens with Celtic folk band

The Carson Valley Arts Council opens their 2010-11 concert series with Canadian folk band Tiller's Folly, Thursday, at the CVIC Hall in Minden.

The event begins with a wine reception hosted by Tahoe Ridge Winery, Marketplace, and Bistro at 6 p.m., with the concert at 7 p.m.

The music of Tiller's Folly is representative of Canada's Scottish heritage. For more than a dozen years, the band has collected and interpreted Scots traditional and Celtic music, tracing its influences through North American music traditions.  

Tiller's Folly is songwriter and lead singer Bruce Coughlan who plays guitar, bodhran, flute and whistles; Laurence Knight who plays bass, sings and is the band's producer; and Nolan Murray on fiddle, mandolin, banjo, viola and guitar.

Season tickets are available for the Carson Valley Arts Council's 2010-11 concert season. Next in the series is Brenn Hill on Oct. 29, Vishten on Jan. 15, Red Chamber on Feb. 25, Robert Mirabal on March 25 and Hot Club Cowtown on May 13.

Carson Valley Arts Council presents a a children's outreach performance of Tiller's Folly at Gardnerville Elementary School on Thursday, made possible through a donation from the Minden Fortnightly women's service club.
