The Douglas Pop Warner Junior Pee Wee Tigers advanced to a 2-0 record with a 39-12 victory over the Sparks Steelers last week.
The Tigers played well in all three phases of offense, defense and special teams.
The Tiger offense, led by QB's Rodina and Lynch, moved the ball effectively the entire game. Behind the powerful blocking of the offensive line of Murray, Lowden, Halligan, Cobb, and Hoyopatubbi, with TE's Foster and Rooker, RB's Romanowitz, Gabriel, Johnson and Rooker ran strong, churning out major yardage.
Gabriel scored on a dive play and extra point, Romanowitz punched it in on a power, and Johnson took two sweeps to the house. Rodina hit Foster and Rooker on sweet pass plays, and Foster caught a pass for an extra point.
The orange Tiger offense, behind the blocking of Burchell, Miguel, Collins, Ketron and Jackson, with Laningham and Cueva, dominated time of possession and ate up chunks of yards. Lynch broke a big bootleg and running backs Crittenden, Duffy and Overton ran tough through the Steeler defense, with Crittenden powering in for a touchdown.
The Tiger D was dominating with its attacking style.
Tackles Wetzel, Hoyopatubbi, Beisner, English and Freitas controlled the line of scrimmage, shut down gaps and wrecked the Steeler backfield most of the night. Defensive backs A. Williams, Capra and Pieller shut down the outside and passing game. Ends Foster, Lynch and Wetzel attacked the backfield and made huge hits for losses on opposing backs. Linebackers Gervais, Murray, W. Williams, Cobb, Rooker and Capra destroyed with blitz packages, aggressive tackling and hard hitting.
Turnovers were huge for the Tigers. Rooker had a big interception and return. Gabriel recovered an onside kick. Gervais recovered three fumbles, Wetzel recovered two, Murray recovered one and W. Williams recovered a fumble in the endzone for a touchdown after a blocked punt by Beisner.
