Douglas High School student Bailey Sheets and her horse Ritz Carlton SSA +/ went to Regina, Saskatchewan, Canada, in August to compete in the 53rd annual Canadian National Arabian & Half-Arabian Championship Horse Show. They rode to a Canadian National Champion victory in the JOTR 14-17 Western Pleasure age division.
Ritz is a purebred Arabian gelding and he and Bailey have been training together for the past five years. Bailey, who is now 15, has been riding him since she was 10 years old.
They also competed in July, at the Region III Arabian and Half-Arabian Horse Show in Reno, and came out with two championships to add to their names as well.
Bailey has been riding Arabian horses since she was 5 years old. Having a grandmother that breeds purebred Arabian horses it was only natural that she took her riding to the show ring. Horses are her passion and she has such a personal connection with all of them. Bailey also has another horse; Fire is a two year old purebred Arabian gelding she is currently working on her own to prepare him to ride under saddle.
This will be her project for her agricultural science class at Douglas High School. As a 4.0 honor student, Bailey puts a lot of hard work and dedication into her horses, job and school work. In the future she hopes to continue her path with these beautiful animals as an equine veterinarian.
Bailey and Ritz will be in the ring again in February at the 56th annual Scottsdale Arabian & Half-Arabian Horse show.
This show is promoted as one of the largest Arabian and Half-Arabian horse shows in the country.
