Man sent to prison for child porn

Two years after his home was raided by police in a search for child pornography, and then a second time to confiscate homemade weapons, a Carson City man initially charged with 32 counts of possession of child pornography was sentenced to up to three years in prison on three counts.

Glenn Allen Ware, 61, must surrender Thursday to begin serving a sentence of 12 to 36 months on each count and 12 to 30 months on a charge of possession of a dangerous weapon, all to run at the same time.

"I can honestly say that the last few years have been the most painful years of my life ... It makes me sad to think that my involvement may have lead to the mistreatment of any child," a tearful Ware said prior to sentencing. "Since my arrest my wife, my daughter, other family and myself suffered tremendous amounts of humiliation and embarrassment by the press and gossip, some of which has no basis in fact ... My conviction as a felon sex offender will permanently and irrevocably destroy my good character ... I am immensely sorry ..."

Ware was arrested in March 2009 after allegedly trading child pornography online with an uncover federal agent. When the search warrant for the child pornography was served, officers noted a number of homemade weapons in Ware's workshop.

He was arrested in September on weapons charges and his machinery was seized under Nevada's forfeiture law in October 2009.

Ware's attorney Martin Weiner, unsuccessfully argued that Ware's time on house arrest should be applied toward his time served in jail. He was given credit for time served of 155 days. Judge Todd Russell refused to allow the home confinement to be counted.

Despite Weiner's assertions that Ware had no criminal record, and the pornography was an isolate event, Russell noted that a psychosexual evaluation revealed Ware had sought treatment in years' past for sex and pornography addiction.

"This isn't something new that was suddenly discovered and came about. It's clear to me that given Mr. Ware's age ... this is a problem that he's had for some time. I believe it is a secret side which his family has little or no knowledge of in regard to his conduct. He obviously tried to take care of his problem. He wasn't able to do that."

According to police reports, in October 2007 Ware allegedly began exchanging e-mails with an undercover federal agent in San Francisco in which Ware requested to trade child pornography.

Based on the information from federal officers, Carson City investigators conducted a search of Ware's home on March 12, 2009.

A subsequent forensic examination of one of the computers seized uncovered scores of images depicting children as young as 12 months old being violated by adult men and women, the reports indicate.
