A man jailed last week for allegedly attempting to cash a phony check at a local casino is suspected of passing dozens of forged checks totaling $50,000.
According to Carson City Sheriff's Detective Bob Motamenpour, with the arrest of Donald Jackson Sr., 27, of Indian Hills, police may have nabbed the person suspected of writing and cashing checks on a bank account belonging to the Washoe Tribe of California and Nevada.
Jackson was arrested at the Slot World Casino on March 30 when a clerk called police after a warning from tribal officers of Jackson's alleged scam.
Motamenpour said the investigation revealed that between March 15 and March 30 Jackson allegedly cashed 45 checks made out in his name at area casinos.
It's possible that he also cashed checks at Reno casinos, but they haven't
yet surfaced, said Motamenpour.
Motamenpour said that it appears Jackson allegedly used the money to purchase drugs, gamble, throw lavish lobster and champagne-fueled parties and treat his friends to nights at the strip club.
Anyone with information on Jackson's activities, or who may have cashed a fraudulent check is asked to call Motamenpour at 887-2020 ext. 41406.
