'Bye, Bye, Birdie' opens Friday at BAC

The captivating musical "Bye, Bye, Birdie" tells the story of a rock 'n' roll singer about to be inducted into the army. The performance by the BAC Stage Kids features great music, imagination and lots of fun, plus more than 40 talented local kids.

Don't be surprised if you find yourself tapping your toes and singing along to the classic theatre songs such as "An English Teacher," "What Did I Ever See in Him," "Put on a Happy Face," "One Boy," "A Lot of Livin' to Do," "Kids," "Rosie" and "Spanish Rose."

Performances are 7 p.m. April 8-9, 15-16.

Senator Parks to address gay, lesbian support group

Sen. David Parks, D-Las Vegas, will address the Parents, Families & Friends of Lesbians and Gays Carson Region membership regarding bills in the 2011 Legislature that are important to members of the lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender community.

The monthly meeting will take place at 7 p.m. today at Comma Coffee, 312 S. Carson St. There is no charge for the event and the public is invited to attend.

Senator Parks will provide updates and answer questions.

Roadshow comes to Carson City

The Springfield, Ill.-based company, Ohio Valley Gold & Silver Refinery, is in Carson City April 12-16 at the Plaza Hotel & Conference Center, 801 S. Carson St., looking to buy precious metals, jewelry, artifacts, antiques and other collectibles.

Times for the shows are from 9 a.m.-6 p.m. every day except Saturday when hours are 9 a.m.-4 p.m.

Area residents are invited to bring down items to sell or to see if they want to accept the roadshow offer.

Before taxes dinner to be held Saturday

The Emblem Club No. 507 will sponsor a Before Taxes Dinner April 9 at the Elks Lodge, corner of Nevada and Robinson streets.

Cocktail hour begins at 5:30 p.m. with the dinner at 6:30 p.m. Cost is $12. The menu is Cornish chili with cornbread, pork tenderloin with apple cherry sauce, roasted red potatoes, honey glazed carrots and ice cream sundaes. For more information, call 882-3751.

Rummage sale to benefit hospital

Tahoe Regional Health-care Auxiliary will host a rummage sale 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Friday and 8 a.m.-noon Saturday at the Eagles Lodge, 1380 E. 5th St., between Roop and Saliman.

Donations can still be dropped off 10 a.m.-4 p.m. today. No large appliances or TVs will be accepted.
