The town of Hawthorne appears to be fairly started. A blacksmith named McIntyre and a farmer known as "French Charley" had a quarrel over a game of cards, and Charley gave notice he was going home for his gun. He returned and shot McIntyre as he passed a door. Opinion seems divided as to the demerits of the case.
100 YEARS AGO
One of the bodies has been found from the breaking of the dam at Hobart Creek Feb. 13. Undertaker Kitzmeyer said the identity of the woman is not yet known. Snow is melting quickly, so the other woman will be found soon.
70 YEARS AGO
Gov. E.P. Carville has given appointment to seven members of the newly created state contractor's board. He expects to announce his selections sometime this week.
50 YEARS AGO
After a week of watching an apartment on W. Musser St., Carson City police entered and found many penny vending machines and a mountain of bubble gum. Apparently the thief, according to police, wanted the feeling of "getting away with something."
20 YEARS AGO
After two attempts, legislative colleges of the late Marvin Sedway convinced the legislative commission to name the staff office building in his honor.
10 YEARS AGO
Gas prices jump 12 cents from $1.68 to $1.80.
