(ACES STAFF) - Cole Gillespie hit a home run and his league-leading fifth and sixth triples, but the Sacramento River Cats rallied for an 11-10 win Thursday night at Aces Ballpark.
Reno jumped out to a 9-2 lead after the fourth inning, but the River Cats fought back. Sacramento scored one in the fifth and three in the sixth before completing the comeback with four more runs in the top of the eighth to tie the game at 10. In the top of the ninth, Jai Miller led off with a walk and reached second on a Rafael Rodriguez balk, before Josh Donaldson drove in the eventual game-winning run with an RBI double to the wall in left-center field.
Aces starter Zach Kroenke allowed six runs-five earned-in 5.1 innings of work, but did not factor in the decision. Rodriguez (0-1) took the loss for Reno after allowing the game-winning run in the ninth, the only run he allowed in 1.1 innings of work.
Willie Eyre (2-0) earned the win in relief of River Cats starter Yadel Marti, who was roughed up for nine hits and seven earned runs in 3.1 innings.
Gillespie finished three-for-five with two RBIs and three runs scored.
Reno and Sacramento complete their four-game set at 6:05 p.m. today.
