Gov. Brian Sandoval and his wife Kathleen are encouraging state workers to wear denim Wednesday to raise awareness of sexual assault.
Denim Day is part of a national movement created after a 1999 incident in Italy where a young woman was told she shared blame for her rape because she was wearing tight jeans.
Women in the Italian parliament responded by wearing jeans in protest and Denim Day became the symbol of the need to understand sexual assault issues.
"I am looking forward to seeing my staff and other state employees wearing denim to raise awareness on Wednesday," said Sandoval.
"Working and wearing denim together, we can speak for all of those who have been assaulted," said First Lady Kathleen Sandoval.
She said more information is available at denimdayinla.org.
