(Continued from Tuesday) Both men made their escape and attributed the attack to a renegade band of Humboldt Shoshones, known as the "White Knives." Charles Stebbins was a sole trader in Ruby Valley Station, gave this account: It was nearly dark at the Dry Creek Station, a Pony Express stop. The men had finished dinner when the Indians began the attack by driving off the stock and then attacked the cabin by shooting. When the men found the cabin was going to burn, they took a pistol in each hand and opened the door to rush through when the Indians fired a volley of arrows.

100 YEARS AGO

The poison fiend still is at large. Somebody's dog picked up a dose last night and died near the depot. It seems strange that the guilty party cannot be run to cover. There should be some kind of way from stopping this kind of business.

"Thunderbolt," hailed as "The Car of the Future," will be exhibited at the Capitol Garage. The "Thunderbolt" is a low slung convertible coupe, and is regarded as a forecast of what the automobile of the future will be in design.
