Monthly swing dance night planned

High Sierra Swing Dance Club presents its monthly dance party April 30 at the Brewery Arts Center's Grand Ballroom, 449 W. King St., Carson City.

There will be a lesson at 7 p.m., with the social dance at 8-10:30 p.m. Partners are not required. Lesson $7 for HSSDC and any swing dance club members or $10 for nonmembers; dance $7 for members of swing clubs and $10 for nonmembers. Join the club that night, and the dance is free. Artisans' Cafe will be open.

Learn to dance

Need to learn to dance to be ready for the coming wedding season, or maybe a vacation cruise?

Dance instructor Larry Ward will present several dance classes beginning in May. Ward has 55-years dance experience.

A seven-week ballroom dance class begins May 9. Classes will be 7:30-9 p.m. Mondays at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St.

This class is designed to get you ready for all the social events that celebrate on the dance floor with emphasis on the cha-cha, waltz, fox trot,east coast swing and salsa.

Cost of the class is $8 per session for adults and $6 for teens.

Cinco de Mayo party in Minden

Mezkal will play for Cinco de Mayo in the Carson Valley Inn Cabaret Lounge starting at 8 p.m.

Lead by Cesar Perez on guitar and main vocals, Mezkal fuses together a blend of Latin music styles such as Cumbia, Meringue, Rock en Espanol and Nortenas delivering a one-of-a-kind performance that's perfect for Cinco de Mayo. Joining Perez with their own extensive skills and playing styles are Freddy Torres (bass and backup vocals), Carlos Neri (drums), Fernando Neri (percussion), Chris Reyes (guitar and backup vocals) and Miguel Arredondo (keyboards).

Genoa Festival Announces Jam Session at Carson Valley Inn

The 2nd Annual Genoa Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival is excited to announce a "Jam Session", slated for 10:30 p.m. May 6 and 7. Both sessions will be in the Cabaret Lounge at the Carson Valley Inn (1627 Highway 395N, Minden, NV 89423). The "jam" will include star-studded performers who will be entertaining at this year's Festival.

The Genoa Cowboy Poetry and Music Festival is co-sponsored by the Town of Genoa and the Carson Valley Arts Council, and includes an extraordinary lineup of Cowboy poets and musicians. In addition to the many performances, workshops and presentations are planned throughout the event. Children's production of 'Honk, Jr.' opens in May

Wild Horse Children's Theatre presents "Honk! Jr" beginning May 6.

Show times are 7 p.m. May 6, 7, 13, 14; 4 p.m. May 7, 8, 14, 15 at the Children's Museum of Northern Nevada, 813 N. Carson St.

The children's production is a modern musical comedy retelling of Hans Christian Andersen's classic tale of the Ugly Duckling.
