FRESNO, Calif. - Cody Ransom homered and doubled twice Tuesday night, leading the Reno Aces to a 6-5 victory over the Fresno Grizzlies in the series finale at Chukchansi Park.
The Aces scored four times in the fourth inning on Tuesday, building a 6-2 lead. But the Grizzlies slowly chipped away, scoring single runs in the fifth and sixth to pull to within two. Brett Pill led off the ninth with a solo home run that cut the deficit to one, and the Grizzlies loaded the bases with one out in the final frame. But Aces closer Rafael Rodriguez struck out Brandon Belt and Ryan Rohlinger in succession to end the proceedings and force a series victory for the Aces.
Ransom hit a solo shot in the second inning, and later added doubles in the fifth and seventh innings to lead the charge on a 12-hit night for Reno. Wily Mo Pena extended his hitting streak to 15-straight games, while Tony Abreu, Cole Gillespie and Konrad Schmidt added two hits apiece.
Zach Kroenke (3-0) earned the win for Reno, scattering three runs - two earned - on eight hits over five innings of work. The southpaw walked two and struck out three.
The Aces return home Thursday to open a four-game set with the Tacoma Rainiers. First pitch is set for 3:05 p.m.
