A fundraiser is set for Saturday to benefit a Carson City family who lost their home to fire.
Organizer Roy Good said members of the Sierra Boys of Summer, the baseball team upon which Hayden Hudson, 10, plays, was sponsoring the carwash at Atkins House of Carpet, 4261 Highway 50 E., from 11 a.m.-4 p.m.
Hayden, his sister Mollie, 12, mother Elizabeth, and grandmother Eleanore Muscott, were left homeless following the July 24 fire that consumed their Wailaki Street home on the Carson Colony in south Carson City.
According to Carson City Fire Battalion Chief Bob Charles, a neighbor was welding next door to the Muscott home when a spark ignited the dry brush. Muscott was home alone and barely escaped with her purse.
The fire destroyed the home and its contents.
Good said the carwash is for a suggested donation of at least $5. They also will be accepting household goods on behalf of the family during the carwash.
Donations of clothing and household goods can be brought to the Nevada Appeal offices at 580 Mallory Way, Monday-Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.
The family is currently staying in a tent on the property or in a motel room, 30 days of which is being paid for by the Washoe Tribe.
Muscott said she hopes to rebuild and has requested to move into a vacant home on the colony in the interim.
The children in the Carson Colony Recreation Program held a spaghetti feed and carwash, donating $500 to the family and others have donated about $250 to a bank account.
