Defending Reno-Tahoe Open champion Matt Bettencourt has withdrawn after eight holes

because of a rib injury.

Bettencourt, who started his round on No. 10, was even par through the 17th.

He recorded birdies at Nos. 11 and 13, and then bogeyed Nos. 16 and 17.

Former British Open champion Shaun Micheel is currently tied for the lead

with Chris Riley and Nick O'Hern. All three are 5-under-par.
