A free street party kicks off the annual Silver Dollar Car Classic from 7-11 p.m. tonight at Arlington Square, across Carson Street from the Carson Nugget.
The classic comes back to Carson City on Friday, Saturday and Sunday at Mills Park on Highway 50 East at Saliman Road.
Hundreds of show cars will converge in the state capital's cool shade and green grass of Mills Park to show off their best flames, best wheels, best paint jobs, coolest cars and hippest rides in this annual summer classic.
There will be a show 'n shine along with the street dance Friday. Live music by Route 66 will be on the main stage with plenty of hot cars, cold drinks, dancing and nostalgia.
The event is free, except food and drink, and there are numerous activities going on all weekend long including:
• Kiwanis Pancake Breakfast from 8-10:30 a.m. Saturday and Sunday at Mills Park.
• Daily show n' shines with classic cars, hot rods, music, food, vendors and crafters at from 8 a.m.-4 p.m. Saturday and 8 a.m.-1 p.m. Sunday at Mills Park.
• Parade of cars with police escort at 4:30 p.m. Saturday from Mills Park to the V&T Train Depot on Highway 50 East.
• Poker Run from 8 a.m.-noon Sunday.
• Sunday barbecue and awards ceremony after the poker run.
