Special speaker at Fountainhead

Pastor Jim Hayford will speak Aug. 14 at the Fountainhead Foursquare Church.

Jim and Betsey recently retired as senior pastors of Eastside Foursquare Church located just outside Seattle, Wash., where they served a congregation of 3,500 people for 15 years. They have also served pastorates in Glendale, Calif., Santa Barbara, Calif., and Danville, Calif., where the church they started in their living room grew to 2,000 members.

Jim and Betsey are longtime friends of pastors Louie and Peggy Locke of the Fountainhead.

The church is located at 3690 Highway 395, Carson City, just south of Best Buy, and service begins at 9:30 a.m.

VBS goes to Main Street

First Christian Church will host vacation Bible school at 6-8:30 p.m. Aug. 8-12.

This years theme is Main Street, where Jesus makes a difference every day. The VBS is free and the kids will have a blast dancing, singing, making crafts, games and learning how Jesus makes a difference in their life.

First Christian Church is located at 2211 Mouton Drive in Carson City. For more information, call 883-4836.

Clothing drive to help less fortunate

The Carson City Nevada Stake of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints is holding a clothing drive from Aug. 10-13 to help address the needs of the less fortunate members of the community.

Those wishing to donate gently used, clean clothing may do so at the church stake center located at 411 N. Saliman, Carson City, on from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Aug. 10-11.

The church is working with several community outreach and service agencies to identify individuals and families most in need. Those families will be invited to participate on 9 a .m.-3 p.m. Aug. 12. The general public is invited to participate 9 a .m.-3 p.m. Aug. 13. Any clothing that is left over will be donated to various identified community agencies.

The church invitates to any member of the Carson City and Carson Valley communities to participate to volunteer in collecting, sorting and distributing clothing on any of these days during the times specified above.

Christian women's group to meet

The next luncheon for the Sierra Christian Women's Club will be Aug. 16, Tamarack Junction Banquet Area, 13101 S. Virginia St., Reno. 

Guest speaker Carol Kohler will talk about living with peace and contentment despite bad choices and the bitter consequences of AIDS in her family.  

Renown Cosmetic Laser & Skin Care will be this month's feature presentation.
