Man convicted again of sexual assault of girl

For the second time, a Lyon County jury convicted a former Fernley man of the sexual assault of a friend's daughter. The Nevada Supreme Court overturned his 2007 conviction on the grounds of juror misconduct.

After a two-day trial and 90 minutes of deliberation Friday, Joshua Lockwood, 32, was found guilty on three felony counts of sexual assault against a child under the age of 14 and one felony count of lewdness with a child under 14.  

Lockwood molested the then-8-year-old daughter of a family friend on numerous occasions between April 2004 and September 2006 in Fernley, according to the criminal complaint. She was 9 years old when she testified the first time and 13 years old this time, said Assistant District Attorney Mark Krueger.

He, along with Deputy District Attorney Chelsie Warner, prosecuted the case.

"While justice was delayed, it was not denied for this child victim or her family," said Krueger. "Her strength and fortitude to testify in 2007 and again during this trial deserves a badge of courage."

Lockwood faces a sentence of 20 years to life for each sexual assault count and 10 years to life for the lewdness count.  

He'll be sentenced Aug. 29.

Lockwood's sentence was reversed by the Supreme Court in September after it was learned the jury forewoman did some Internet research in relation to the case prior to reaching a verdict.
