John Asberry has on his ranch a way to irrigate his land at an expense of $40 which can pump 7,000 gallons every 34 hours (sic). The windmill consists of four boards about seven feet long suspended from an axle. The affair acts just like water acts on an overshot wheel.

Dr. Wm. E. Yancey, formerly of the United States Public Health and Marine Hospital Service, has announced he will open a veterinary office here. Dr. Yancey came to this city to assist in the investigation of health lines for the government. He is so well pleased with the climate he wants to settle permanently here.

At the first of September W.S. Sparks will open the Safeway store in the new Maffi building on North Carson street, opposite the civic auditorium. Workmen today are installing a large number of electric lights.

A flash flood inundated Nye and Gardner Lanes in New Brunswick following heavy rain this week. Flood-waters continued up Gardner Lane, then ran through a culvert under Highway 50 to the Carson River.

A state hiring freeze is slowing efforts to hire 186 new staffers approved for the State Industrial Insurance System as part of a major reform package to help injured workers.
