130 YEARS AGO

Recently a man named Skinner in Eureka gave his wife so brutal a beating that for a time her life was despaired of. His case was dismissed by the District Attorney with a fine of $30. The DA published a card stating the woman was unwilling to prosecute. The attorney should vacate his office immediately as the office has been disgraced. Men in such positions are supposed to prosecute the criminals, not protect them.

100 YEARS AGO

This morning at five minutes to eleven Patrick C. Casey mounted the scaffold at the State Penitentiary. At two minutes past 11 he was pronounced dead by the State physician. Casey murdered Mrs. Lucy Heslip two years ago today in Goldfield. Casey did not fail at the scaffold. "To the unfortunate woman I killed I hope she is in heaven and in peace, in this I ask forgiveness," wrote Casey.

70 YEARS AGO

The Paramount "on location" team has finished filming in Carson and are on their way back to Hollywood. Love scenes were photographed on the porch of the C. B. Austin home last night.

50 YEARS AGO

Last week's flash floods caused more than $162,000 in damage to state highways. Reports show damage the most extensive in western Nevada where the cost to repair could mount to $90,000.

20 YEARS AGO

The mayor, three supervisors and an entourage of staff and consultants endured a rain-drenched picnic, bone-rattling roads and lightening to tour the city's water system.

10 YEARS AGO

The Historic Downtown Merchants Association has dedicated Marilyn Pruett Harper's home on Curry Street.
