Ex-coach to be tried on child porn charges

A Carson City judge determined Friday that there was enough evidence to try a former youth sports coach with possession of child pornography.

Following a daylong preliminary hearing, Stanley Mills, 42, was bound over to District Court on 45 counts of possession of child pornography and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm.

Police were investigating a threat report involving someone else at Mills' Baker Street home when they discovered dozens of images and videos of young girls being violated by men, according to court documents.

Mills was arrested Sept. 16 on the weapons charge after officers found him allegedly in possession of three rifles. Convicted of strong-arm robbery in the 1990s, Mills is prohibited from possessing weapons under Nevada law.

He was then charged with the child pornography counts on which he was bound over. He is free on $15,000 bail.

After Friday's preliminary hearing, Justice of the Peace Tom Armstrong ordered as a condition of Mills' bail that he not be in the presence of children other than his own. He has two teenage sons.

According to Carson City police Detective Daniel Gonzales, Mills was a coach for a number of youth sports programs in Carson City. Assistant District Attorney Gerald Gardner said Mills has previously volunteered as an umpire for a Carson City youth baseball league.
