130 YEARS AGO

Yesterday a kite was flying over the city made in the shape of a woman. It was very large and attracted general attention. The altituduous female frisked about with the wind much to the delight of the small boys and no doubt that in a few days the air will be peopled with these frisky females. Each youngster will have a girl on a string.

100 YEARS AGO

Parties returning from Glenbrook state the hotel is filled to capacity. This has been the busiest ever experienced at the lake and has exceeded everyone's expectations.

70 YEARS AGO

The first of the Army trucks rolled up Carson street this afternoon as part of a movement of troops from California to Fort Lewis, Washington for maneuvers. The coast artillery, antiaircraft batteries consisted of some 1,600 men. The column is noted to be one and a half hours long. They will camp on the Winnie Ranch northwest of Carson City.

50 YEARS AGO

The south seas were transplanted to the South Shore of Lake Tahoe at Harvey's Wagon Wheel Beach House recently. One hundred and sixty-seven guests were in attendance including Nevada's governor and first lady. Herbie Kay's Hawaiian Trio provided authentic Hawaiian music.

20 YEARS AGO

Two strong earthquakes rattled Northern California and Southern Oregon. The strongest measured 6.9 on the Richter scale. No damage was reported.

10 YEARS AGO

Don Howser of Minden gets his second Bronze Star with Oak Leaf Cluster. He got his first in 1953 for leadership in the Korean War.
