Rummages sale benefits Evergreen's seniors

Evergreen Mountain View is hosting its annual No Resident Left Behind Rummage Sale 7a.m.-2 p.m. Saturday at 201 Koontz Lane, Carson City.

All proceeds go to the No Resident Left Behind Fun for Evergreen resident outings and activities.

To donate items for the sale, bring them to 201 Koontz Lane. Ask for Jon or Marissa.

Shade Tree Council volunteer sought

The Carson City Board of Supervisors is seeking applications from persons interested in serving on the Shade Tree Council.

There is one volunteer opening to be filled. The Shade Tree Council provides advice to the Board of Supervisors on matters concerning the development, maintenance, management and promotion of a safe, healthy and attractive urban forest in Carson City.

This term will expire January 2012. Applicants should be aware that a minimum commitment of up to 10 hours a month is expected. All members serve without compensation. Applicants must be Carson City residents and registered voters to qualify.

Volunteer applications may be obtained from and returned to the Carson City Executive Offices, 201 N. Carson St. Applications will be accepted until Sept. 22.

Divorce forms, information clinic, workshop offered

Carson City Library, Nevada Legal Services and Volunteer Attorneys for Rural Nevadans have teamed together to provide free legal educational clinics and workshops every fourth Thursday of each month.

The next workshop will be held Thursday at noon at the library, 900 N. Roop St. Elder Care Education will be the topic.

The Divorce Forms and Information Clinic will provide an overview of the process and procedures for filing for a divorce for people who are filing on their own. The clinic will be followed by a Self-Help Forms Clinic where assistance with filing legal forms will be available. Each workshop will provide general instructions and assistance regarding the completion of self-help forms for those who are self-represented litigants. A Notary Public also will be available.

Following the self-help clinic, a free legal education clinic will be held from 3:30-5:30 p.m. Elder Care Education will be the topic this week.

Bouncerz offering weekly fun for children with special needs

Due to a donation from a private benefactor, Bouncerz will offer a private bounce program for families with special needs children from 10 a.m.-noon every Friday beginning this week.

This program will allow special needs children to play in a fun, safe and socially active environment while parents can interact and build relationships with other families of special needs children.

The program will continue until Oct. 7, at which time the benefactor will decide whether to continue.

Show-n-shine features family fun

Karson Kruzers and Sonic Drive-in will host a free show-n-shine and street dance 6-10 p.m. Saturday at 1856 College Pkwy.

The family fun features music, drinks, T-shirts and raffle prizes. All vehicles are welcome.

Carson City history research group presents Joyce Cox on Washoe County

Have you always wanted to know more about the people, places and things that made up life in early Carson City and its surroundings? Want to share your interest with others?

The third free meeting of a historical research group will be held at 10 a.m. Saturday at 10 a.m. at the Carson City Library, 900 North Roop St.

Speaker for the meeting will be Joyce Cox who will present a slide show on Washoe County in the late 1800s-1900s. There will be updates on the Morgan/Cohn home, WW II airplanes and Lake Tahoe - and sharing of other ideas from the past.

September events include the addition of a writer's group and a tour of Lone Mountain Cemetery.

Anyone interested is invited to join the group for some stories about Carson City's early days as well as to share personal stories. For more information, call 841-1975, or just come on Saturday.

New senior apartment complex opens

Sierra Ridge Senior Apartments in Carson City will host a ribbon-cutting ceremony at 11 a.m. Sept. 14 at 1820 Russell Way.

The event will welcome a new manager and celebrate the opening of the apartment complex. Lunch and refreshments will be provided immediately following the ceremony.
