NV Energy accepting apps for incentives

NV Energy will be accepting applications for its wind turbine incentive program through Dec. 14.

The program, WindGenerations, will offer a $2.25-per-watt rate for residential, agricultural, and small business participants. Schools and public buildings will receive a $3.25-per-watt rate, according to press release from NV Energy.

Since the program's creation in 2008, 72 projects capable of generating 720 kilowatts of electricity and $2.2 million in incentives have been paid out.

Utility lawyer joins Holland & Hart firm

Jacqueline Bryant Rombardo has joined law firm Holland & Hart's Carson City office.

Rombardo will focus on helping clients with utility matters, with an emphasis on cases involving renewable energy. Her legal background includes utilities, insurance, administrative law, negotiation and legislation.

She has worked as an attorney for the Bureau of Consumer Advocate, the Nevada Public Utilities Commission, the state division of insurance and the governor's office.

Discount Tire opens in Carson

Discount Tire has opened at 3449 S. Carson St. in Carson City, north of Koontz Lane.

The tire and wheel retailer is operated by 18 employees and will be open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Saturday. It is closed Sunday.

"Customers will likely be attracted by our low prices and selection of tires and wheels," said Allen Olgas, a 13-year employee and manager of the Carson City store, in a statement. "However, we believe that our customer service and satisfaction guarantee make the difference."

The store is equipped with no-touch mounting machines to protect expensive wheels and automatic inflation equipment to precisely inflate tires.

Azevedo joins Carson City's AAA office

Angela Azevedo has joined AAA Northern Nevada's Carson City office. Azevedo will specialize in insuring autos, homes, rental property, mobile homes, and specialty products including motorcycles, watercraft, ATV's and collector cars.

Azevedo brings 16 years of insurance experience to AAA. She resides in Dayton with her husband of 10 years and their two daughters.

United Way seeks tax preparers

United Way of Northern Nevada and the Sierra is looking for volunteers to help prepare tax returns in 2012 to help individuals and families earning less than $50,000.

Volunteers of all stripes will receive tax training from community partners and the IRS. Volunteers with computer skills are needed to help prepare and transmit tax returns through the IRS E-file program also.

eWomenNetwork to host December event

The Reno/Carson/Tahoe Chapter of the eWomenNetwork is offering female entrepreneurs and business owners the opportunity to hear "the year's best ideas" from other business women and network at a Dec. 14 event, according to a press release.

The informal networking session begins at 4:30 p.m., with the rest of the event running from 5 to 8:15 p.m. Attendees will learn: Strategies to capitalize on "learning moments;" how to identify key tools for professional growth; and ways to apply others' success strategies for professional and personal growth in 2012.

Tall turbine installed

Installation of a 160-foot wind turbine in north Washoe Valley has been completed by Peak Construction, Hettrick Electric and The Solar Store, all of Carson City.

The turbine at the home to Tim Stevens is believed to be one of the tallest in the western United States. It has the capacity to produce 20,000 kilowatt hours a year at an 11-mph average wind.
