About half-past 1 this morning a party of masked men forcibly entered the jailer's room in the court house of Austin and took Richard Jennings, the murderer of Barrett. Jennings was taken out and hanged from the balcony over the front door. On Monday night Jennings shot and killed John A. Barrett in the barroom of the International Hotel. There was not the slightest provocation. Barrett was one of the oldest and most respected citizens of Austin.

The work of wiring the Capitol building for electric illumination to replace the gas service is a big contract. The rooms are very large and the walls built of stone, which means this is slow work. The old gas pipes were embedded in stone, meaning repair work was almost impossible. If everything goes as planned, the inside will be lighted in a few months.

A detachment of United States soldiers arrived in Elko this morning and will be stationed here to protect tunnels and bridges of the railroad, reports the Free Press. Precautions are being taken against sabotage at such vulnerable points. Some soldiers are being stationed at the Knights of Pythias Hall, while others are at the Masonic Hall.
