Carson Middle School squads win Tah-Neva titles

Carson Middle School's seventh-grade boys basketball team capped off a perfect 19-0 season by winning the Tah-Neva Championship during the weekend.

Carson beat Pau-Wa-Lu, 36-18, in the championship game, its lowest margin of victory all season. Jace Keema led the way with 13 points, while Tez Allen added 11 points. Brandon Gagnon and Greg Wallace added five each. In the semifinals, Carson pounded Eagle Valley, 43-20, as Derek Schafer tallied 14 with Wallace adding eight and Gagnon six.

Carson drilled Whittell (40-14) in the opener as Conner Larkin led CMS with 13 points, while Keema added six. Wallace and Jayden DeJoseph scored five each.

"The nucleus of this team has played a lot of basketball, and it showed throughout the season," coach John Paulson said. "These boys work hard and were a joy to coach."

Team members were Taylor Saarem, Adam Maw, Schafer, Gagnon, Bryce Moyle, Bebop Martinez, Nico Salm, Larkin, DeJoseph, Wallace Allen and Keema. Malcom Jackson and Jayson Artz were the team managers.

Carson Middle eighth graders win crown

Carson Middle's eighth-grade team won the Tah-Neva championship by going 3-0 over the weekend.

Carson knocked off Carson Valley (54-38) in the finals, as Asa Carter scored 17, while Jared Rooker and Cody Azevedo added nine with Ian Schulz tallying eight.

Carson opened the tournament with a 60-6 win over Incline, as Kyle Krebs scored 11 with Schulz, Rooker, Logan O'Day and Eddie Duarte adding eight each. In the semis, Carson beat Sage Ridge 47-20 behind 19 points by Carter, nine from Azevedo and seven by Rooker.

"I'm really proud of the boys," Carson coach Doug Whisler said. "They played a great tournament. We had three really intense days of practice before the tournament, and it really paid off. The other teams didn't seem to have an answer for our press."

Silver State gymnasts score well on weekend

Silver State Gymnastics Academy of Carson City competitive team participated in the Eye Opener Meet at High Sierra Gymnastics this weekend.

At Level 4 in the child 5-6 division Elle Liebendorfer won all four events and the all-around title (AA). In the 7-year-old division, Rosalia Daulerio was first on vault, second on bars and beam and third on floor, and finished second AA. In the 8-year-old division Alycia Hellwinkel was third on beam, second on floor, and third AA. Hailey Glynn finished fourth AA. In the 10-year-old division Isabella Daulerio was first on vault, bars and floor, third on beam, and first AA. Sophia Taggart was second on vault, bars, floor and first on beam to take home second place AA. Chloe Walt finished second on beam, and third AA. Brianna Wiles tied for second on vault, was third on floor, and finished fourth AA. In the 11 and up division, Brenna Mitchell placed second on vault and beam to win the second place AA medal. After combining the top three scores on each event, the Silver State Gymnastics Level 4 girls brought home the second place team award.

At level 3 in the 6-year-old division, Emily Lewis dominated by placing first on all four events and the AA title. Riley Glenn took home the second place AA by taking second on vault, and third on bars and floor. In the 7-year-old division, Elianna King also made a clean sweep by winning first place in all four events and the AA medal. In the 9-year-old division, Madison Adams wouldn't be denied her chance at a clean sweep, and did just that by winning first on all four events and the AA again. The level 3's brought home the first place team award.

In the level 5, 10-year-old division, Lily Reid placed first on bars and vault, and second on beam and floor to capture the second place AA. In the 12 and older division, Tia Leonard was first on bars, third on vault and floor to win fourth place AA.
