In brief: Mrs. J.C. Smart is very ill with typhoid fever. McEwen, of the Virginia Chronicle, was in town last night, hunting material for a "diary." Attendance at the pigeon shooting at Swift's Springs yesterday was fair. The birds were sprung from an H.&T. Trap, 21 yards rise. James Crawford made the best joint score, killing twenty-one birds out of twenty-four.

100 YEARS AGO

The Salt Lake Telegram contains an article telling of the arrest of Angell Katsegeanes, a former resident of Elko on the charge of white slaving. The girl in case, Lizzie Williams, 17, stated the man promised her work in Elko, then imprisoned her in room adjoining a saloon which he operated and compelled her to lead a shameful life. She later escaped to Salt Lake City.

70 YEARS AGO

The federal communications service has notified Rudolph R. Malo, and C.B. Melter that they are among the selected amateur radio operators who are permitted to go on the air for defense purposes only under regulations fixed by the government.

50 YEARS AGO

A fire broke out in the Carson Junior High School this morning completely gutting one room and causing extensive smoke damage to the entire upstairs hall. The blaze gave the 299 seventh and eighth graders an unexpected days vacation. The blaze started in the teacher's lounge.

20 YEARS AGO

Born to Teri and Thomas Batisberger of Carson City, a daughter, Rebecca Hope Baltisberger December 5.

10 YEARS AGO

An early Christmas present to Carson High School is a 5-by-10-foot flag as a remembrance of Korea War missing.
