Mountain climber to speak Jan. 12

Carson City Library will host mountain climber Russ Law at 6 p.m. Thursday, Jan. 12. The slide-show presentation, entitled "Earth, Wind, Fire, and Sherpa," will cover high-altitude trekking and entry-level climbing near Mount Everest. Law traveled to Nepal last fall.

Law retired from the Nevada Department of Transportation in 2010. He enjoys a variety of activities, to include writing and playing the drums. The telling of his recent adventure will delight audience members. This program is free and open to the public.

Coin shop owner to talk about collecting

Allen Rowe, owner of the Northern Nevada Coin stores in Carson City and Reno, will present a program to the Carson City Library and the Carson City Historical Society on Thursday, Jan. 19.

Rowe is a member of the professional Numismatics Guild and a columnist for the Nevada Appeal. His timely "Numismatics Talk" will begin at 6:30 p.m.
