The School Whipping. Up to this issue the Appeal has refrained from reporting about the alleged cruel beating of a nine-year-old son of Colonel A.C. Ellis at the hands of his teacher, Miss Jeannie Kelly. Yesterday Miss Kelly and her father visited the Appeal office, asking that the case not be mentioned and that they would have an explanation the following morning (cont.)

100 YEARS AGO

The potato growers, ranchers and citizens of Mason Valley in Lyon County have made arrangements to employ an inspector to examine potato shipments designated for California markets to make sure the product is Eel Worm free.

70 YEARS AGO

All arrangements have been made for Carson's first trial blackout scheduled to start at 8 this evening. The signal for blacking out will be the rapid ringing of the fire bell and sirens. An "all clear" signal will be given once the blackout is complete.

50 YEARS AGO

Senator Alan Bible, D-Nev., last night told directors of the various water districts he was certain congress would appropriate additional funds for the development of the Washoe Project. The Carson-Truckee Water Conservation district is negotiating for more than $55 million for a Carson and Truckee river reclamation plan.

20 YEARS AGO

Ninety-six seventh grade students from Carson Junior High School bought more than 100 gifts for needy children after making selections from Kmart's Giving Tree. Teacher Bonnie Parnell said many student used their own money.
