130 YEARS AGO

The State Prison. Observations of the Unfortunates. The Prison presents a decidedly interesting and absorbing study for the student of a peculiar and undesirable phase of human nature. Such is the case as inmates are turned loose in a huge room shaped corral used as an eating room. At no other time during a dreary, monotonous week are the convicts allowed to exchange a word with each other unless in a cell where two or three are confined (Continued).

100 YEARS AGO

The inmates of the state asylum for mental diseases were treated to a Christmas tree Sunday. A musical program had been arranged and patients musically inclined, participated.

70 YEARS AGO

The Pathfinder's Flying Service got the instructors and staff moved to Carson just in time to be grounded by one of the longest snowstorms in several years. Contractors are so very pleased with the hospitality of this city that they are determined to make Carson their headquarters for training pilots. The Bransetter Flying Service is currently grounded in Sacramento, but will arrive when conditions warrant.

50 YEARS AGO

(Photo Caption) Walter C. Wilson, executive secretary of the Nevada Gaming Commission, presents a check for $3 million in fourth quarter gaming taxes and fees to State Treasurer Dan Franks and Gov. Grant Sawyer. The collections, at an all-time high, are based on a record $54,640,625 collected by the gaming industry.
