PREPS: Carson girls lose twice

LAS VEGAS - Carson High dropped two games in the first day of the Las Vegas Holiday Tournament on Wednesday.

Carson lost 35-34 to University, and then was trounced by Centennial 52-13.

Coach Todd Ackerman wasn't pleased with his team's play against University.

"We were terrible," he said. "We had only nine points in the first half. We had three points in the second quarter and those were on free throws."

Carson trailed 22-9 at vthe half, and still lost despite a 25-13 scoring edge in the second half.

The Senators had trouble finishing plays, missing seven layups in the third quarter.

Eliza Matley led Carson with nine in the game, while Tiana-McAllister-Daggs added six and Emily Collins five.

No information was available at press time from the Centennial game.

RENO - Maddi Preston and Teresa Boehmer scored 11 points each to lead Carson's freshman girls squad to a 35-13 win over Bishop Manogue in the State Farm tournament on Wednesday.

Destanee Cachucha added seven for the Senators, who are now 8-1.

• Carson's freshman boys team knocked off Manogue 51-31 in the second round of the State Farm tournament thanks to 25 points by Cameron Price. Nolan Shine added nien for the Senators and Brandon Ruf tallied six.

• Austin Shaffer scored 10 and Alan Cohen added eight in Carson's 43-42 loss to Reed in a State Farm tourney JV game. Chace Baker chipped in seven for Carson.

• After beating Hug in the opening round, the Dayton JV girls dropped a 48-47 decision to Spanish Springs in overtime.

Lettie Lynch hit a game-tying 3-pointer at the end of regulation, sending the game into overtime.

Lynch scored 12 points,

• Carson's JV girls battled back in the fourth quarter to beat Reed 51-46.

Natali Salas scored 13 of her 16 points in the fourth, and Gina Peacock had 15, and Skye Simpson added eight.

The Carson girls continue play today.

• Dayton's freshman girls lost to Truckee 41-19 at Damonte Ranch. The Dust Devils' best player was Elvia Diaz.
