BUSINESS NOTES: New sushi restaurant opens in east Carson

Carson City has a new sushi restaurant: Kei Sushi, 3220 Highway 50 East, Suite 4.

Owner Silvya De La Rosa opened the restaurant Jan. 23. She moved to Carson City last year and has worked as a casino dealer in South Lake Tahoe for 11 years.

"I was looking for a good sushi place and decided to open my own," De La Rosa said. "This is what I would want as a customer. A place with some ambiance, nice to look at, and I just decided to go for my own business."

The restaurant is filled with modern decor and the usual accoutrements of a sushi bar: Sake, sushi boats and sushi chefs wearing headbands.

On Friday afternoon, Kei Sushi was packed with lunchtime customers as three sushi chefs behind the counter sliced, rolled and served.

"They do great sushi," she said. "For less than two weeks, we have no more room."

Besides sushi, De La Rosa's restaurant also offers a variety of Asian-styled dishes such as a tempura platter, Hawaiian teriyaki and Japanese eggrolls filled with shrimp, crab, cream cheese and seasonings. There's also a kid's menu.

The all-you-can-eat sushi costs $15.95 for lunch and $21.95 for dinner.

As for the name, De La Rosa said "Kei" and can mean "blessing" in Japanese. "And that's the way I look at this place," De La Rosa said.

"I hope it's not just a blessing for me and my family but also for the people that work here."

The hours for Kei Sushi are 11 a.m.-9 p.m. Tuesday-Saturday and 4-9 p.m. on Sundays.

Carson City B&B for sale

The Bliss Bungalow, a bed and breakfast at 408 West Robinson St., is for sale, said owner Joyce Harrington.

Harrington, 61, and her boyfriend of 17 years have run the inn for six years. They're asking $850,000 for the house, which includes upgraded electrical, plumbing and heating and cooling systems.

"Someone could move in and make it their home," she said. "It's such a beautiful neighborhood to be in."

The home originally belonged to the Chartz family and was built in 1914, Harrington said. A descendant of the family lived in the home until he died in 1999.

Harrington and her boyfriend also own the nearby Bliss Mansion.

As for their reason for selling, Harrington said they're spending a lot of time out of state seeing grandchildren.

"It's time for a life change," she said. "It's been a fun experience, I never thought I'd let it go."
